Black Hills Astronomical Society Meeting Dates
Meetings held on the dates listed below (third Mondays, September through May) starting at 7:00 p.m.
at the Journey Museum, 222 New York Street.
and Star Parties are held on Friday evenings at the Hidden Valley Observatory
starting at dusk (about 9 PM in the summer, 7 PM in the fall) unless the sky is cloudy or the moon is too near full.  See below for specific dates.

"Star Parties"
Our "Star Parties" are held on scheduled Friday evenings at the Hidden Valley Observatory starting at dusk unless the sky is cloudy or the moon is too near to full. 

In 2007, star parties have been held in October and November.  This was the first year we held these in the fall.
The 2008 Summer Star Party dates are planned for May 9, 30; June 6, 13, 27; July 11, 25; August 8, 22, 29; September 5.
On September 27, weather permitting, we plan to hold a special star party SE of Rapid City on the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands.

Jan. 21 - Video: "Starting at Home: the Milky Way Galaxy"
Feb. 18 - Don Teets: "Astronomy by the Numbers" - an understanding of angles, distances, and time from the perspective of the amateur astronomer.

Mar. 17 - Bob Polcyn: "Learning the Night Sky"
Apr. 21 - Video - "Phases of the Moon and Glorious Eclipses"
May 19 - Video - "A Tour of the Cosmos"

Sep. 8 - Wade Johnson: Practical Hints for Observing the Moon - NOTES: this meeting will be on the 2nd Monday;
we will observe the moon from outside the Journey Museum if weather permits.

Oct. 20 - Bob Polcyn - "Messier and His Objects"

Nov. 17 - Tom Durkin - "Hubble: Images from Space"

Dec. 15 - Party Time
